The official onchain token is an entitlement to gold held for you. The others are not.
Why we say that
Gold is official onchain in three forms: Paxos issues PAX Gold (PAXG) on Ethereum and Solana, Tether issues Tether Gold (XAU₮) on Ethereum and BNB Chain, and Matrixdock issues XAUm on Ethereum, BNB Chain and Solana. PAXG and XAU₮ are each a claim on gold held in custody for the holder — an entitlement, not a share of a fund or a debt security, and not gold in your hand. XAUm is a debt owed in gold, not gold held for the holder: Matrixdock's own Terms let it be held on an unallocated basis, hold it as agent for the Token Issuer, for the Token Issuer's benefit, and permit a security interest over it. Gold carries no votes and pays no dividends. No official gold token is listed on Base or Robinhood Chain.
